Uwch -y-Don was built as a lead miners
cottage and stands in an area of outstanding natural beauty on the Lleyn
Peninsula. It was bought by Hubert & Mary Cooper in the 1960's as a holiday
home for them and their family Simon, Janice and Paul.. During this era Hubert & Mary would only let the cottage to friends and relatives as the accommodation was slightly on the primitive side and cleaning had to be done before your departure.

Following discussions between Hubert and Paul (youngest son) the cottage underwent radical improvements during the closed season of 1995/96. Tragically Hubert never saw the improvements as he died following a road accident close to his home in Lincolnshire before plans were put in place. The family were devastated and took some time to recover, however it was eventually decided that the cottage would remain with the family and the planned improvements would take place. The cottage is a fitting tribute to Hubert and is a place where he will always be especially remembered by his family.
A final note for regular visitors who have expressed concern about Mary's "last" entry in the guest book, Mary did manage a further visit with all the family to celebrate 50 years of ownership in May 2016. Sadly this was to be her last visit as she passed away in January 2017. Bookings continue to be handled by Janice, her daughter who can be reached on 01507 354892. |
